Start with your email
Your main email account is often the recovery route for other accounts. Give it a strong, unique password. Review its recovery details and remove devices you no longer use. A password manager can help you use different passwords without remembering them all.
Add another way to prove it is you
Turn on multifactor authentication wherever it is available, especially for email and important accounts. Check the security settings for a passkey or security-key option. Keep recovery codes somewhere safe and separate from the device you use to sign in.
Make updates a habit
Enable automatic updates for your operating system, browser and apps. If an update requires a restart, choose a time to complete it. Remove apps and browser extensions you no longer need.
Pause before responding
An urgent message is a reason to slow down. Open the company’s app or type its known website address yourself. If a friend asks for help or money, contact them using a number you already know. Do not rely on the contact details in the suspicious message.
