Kali Linux 2026.3 is available, with changes aimed at making custom installation images easier to build and a refreshed set of security-testing tools. The project announced the release on October 26.
Custom builds get simpler
The updated build scripts support Docker and Podman, reducing the need to prepare a dedicated Kali build environment. The project is also standardising script options and layouts across platforms.
This work is not complete: the team says some remaining script updates are planned for Kali 2026.4. People maintaining automated builds should review the changes before replacing a working setup.
What else is included?
The release lists 126 package updates, Linux kernel 7.1.5 and KDE Plasma 6.7. Six additions to the repositories include Dalfox, Katana, qsreplace, RustScan, SDRangel and snaffler-ng.
NetHunter also receives compatibility fixes and device updates. WearHunter, a feature for controlling a NetHunter watch from a phone, is described as experimental.
Where to get it
Existing users can follow the project’s upgrade instructions; fresh installation images are available through the official download page. Kali notes that its automated weekly builds do not undergo the same quality-assurance process as standard releases.
Our practical takeaway
For a testing workstation, a predictable setup matters as much as a new tool list. Back up your configuration and allow time to check your usual workflow after an upgrade. A release announcement is not evidence that every tool or device combination has been independently tested by this publication.
We have not performed a hands-on review of this release. This report summarises the project’s announcement.
